Two aspiring broadcasters from the Eastern Cape have been named winners of the 2026 TruTalent Search competition sponsored by Telkom, earning presenter contracts with TruFM.

Azole Jezile, 30, and Tsholofelo Bozo, 26, were recently announced as the winners at the finals held at The Capital Boardwalk in Gqeberha after weeks of public voting and competition rounds.

Jezile, who entered the competition for the third time, said persistence and his passion for radio had finally paid off.

“Last time I made it to the top 10. I am thirsty for radio, and I have a calling,” he said.

Jezile said he was overwhelmed after hearing he had won.

“When I found out I won, I had mixed emotions … Winning is no small victory, knowing the work of the other contestants,” he said.

He credited community support and networking for his success.

“Going to the ground, events and workshops, [there are] business people, artists and friends [who] helped a lot to get me where I am now,” Jezile said.

His story will inspire young people to chase their dreams

The new presenters are expected to begin their temporary contracts with TruFM in June.

Bozo said radio had always been part of her life as she grew up around the industry through her father, Khgotso “Kid Nkayi”, who previously worked at CKI FM, now known as TruFM.

“I took it from my father. I grew up around that.

“There was a time in 2009 when I came across the opportunity to be at TruFM … from there it was louder,” she said.

Bozo said her early exposure inspired her to pursue studies in versatile broadcasting at Walter Sisulu University.

“I studied broadcasting at WSU and then I saw it was something that I liked,” she said.

Despite failing to make it in previous attempts in 2023 and 2024, Bozo said she continued building experience at Kumkani FM while also applying to study for a diploma in journalism.

Zozibini “Zozi” Tunzi is poised to make her mark in the film and TV industry as she joins Top Billing’s 2026 comeback season on SABC3. She is among the new lineup of presenters on the show, including Miss South Africa 2023 runner-up Bryoni Govender, actor Arno Greeff, and voiceover artist Sine Mpulu. Hailing from the small village of Sidwadweni, near Tsolo, in the Eastern Cape, Zozi told TshisaLIVE that being on the small screen has been a lifelong dream for her, as she used to watch YoTV as a child and shows such as Top Billing in her adulthood. “Even before I became the Zozi that everyone knows, it has definitely been something I wanted to do from a very young age. I’ve always been obsessed with TV, presenting, and acting. I loved reading books and watching TV, which is all I ever did besides playing outside,” she said. “I would watch the shows, having no idea how I would ever get there.” She has been on a quiet pursuit to venture into TV. Zozi’s first time outside the village was when she went to study public relations at Cape Peninsula University of Technology. While studying, she juggled acting auditions as well. “When I got to the city for the first time for my varsity, there used to be this link that I would look for on Google; it used to have casting news. “I went through a lot of castings in my varsity career. Had the best time doing that. So many rejections along the way. It was always just so exciting to even pursue auditions.” But it wasn’t until she was crowned as Miss South Africa in 2019 that her life changed. In the same year, she was crowned Miss Universe and made history as the longest-reigning Miss Universe, holding the title for over a year and five months. In 2022, Zozi made her acting debut in the American film The Woman King. She later returned to the screen, playing the character of Naomi in the South African Netflix series Bad Influencer in 2025. “I was like a duck paddling all these years, and it’s so beautiful to see how everything has panned out. My six years as a public figure have taught me so much. It has prepared me for this. I’m an artist, a performer; so many rejections along the way.” Now that she’s finally made it, she hopes to pursue more opportunities in the film and TV industry. The industry has taken a hard knock in recent years, and Zozi said that as she builds a career in the space, she is not oblivious to the struggles of others trying to break into the film and TV industry and wants their voices to be amplified. “It’s such a sad reality when you think of the marches that are happening. I feel it’s not taken as seriously as it should. People watch TV all the time to be entertained by actors and other personalities. It brings so much revenue in the country, but it does not reflect on how they are getting paid. I do hope cries of South African artists will be heard eventually. “There are so many things in the pipeline. I’m not going to lie, I am very busy at the moment, but I do try my best to juggle my personal life and my work.” TimesLIVE

Versatile broadcasting lecturer and former television presenter Jeff Moloi said TruFM finalist Bozo was already a natural radio talent before joining the institution in 2020.

Moloi said he first met Bozo during the Covid-19 period when she enrolled at the university, describing her as a “fully complete DJ” even at the beginning of her studies.

“I’ve known her since 2020. As much as I would love to talk about what we’ve done to help her become what she is, the reality is that Tsholo was a TruFM person even before she came here,” he said.

The TruTalent competition, hosted annually by TruFM under the SABC, aims to discover new youth radio talent in the Eastern Cape.

This year’s edition began in April with SMS voting campaigns that narrowed contestants from a top 16 to a final top four.

Finalists, including Bozo, Jezile, Lunathi Ngqele, Anita Rula and Lihle Waya campaigned for votes through social media and community mobilisation drives.

This year is shaping up to be the year of podcasts, with numerous celebrities launching their own shows. The latest to join the fray is 947 breakfast host Anele Mguldwa née Mdoda. The Anele Podcast — Her & Now is set to premier on May 7. The podcast, which will span eight episodes, is set to bring the voices, realities and triumphs of South African women into “sharp, honest focus”. The promotional material states the Her & Now report is drawn from in-depth research with more than 4,000 women across South Africa, which reveals that women today are simultaneously more empowered and more exhausted than ever before. “This research needs to be heard in nuggets by women every single day. There’s a quiet revolution happening, and softness is the behaviour leading it. One quote that stands out for me is: ‘You have to schedule the good times, because the bad times don’t make an appointment.’ Joy, no matter how small, is an act of power — you’ve got the power to make sure that you’re having a good time," Anele said. “I am really excited about this podcast because I have been waiting to have these impactful and important conversations about women. It’s about time. These conversations need to happen.” Episode 1 of the podcast, called The Power Paradox, features the mother of late rapper AKA, content creator and brand influencer Lynn Forbes, who speaks on vulnerability, grief, and what it means to be seen. Comedian Tumi Morake and CEO of AmaZulu Football Club Sinenjabulo Zungu also feature on the podcast. TimesLIVE

Mnquma local municipality also congratulated Jezile following his victory.

Municipal spokesperson Loyiso Mpalantshane said the municipality was proud to support Jezile’s journey through publicity and marketing on its social media platforms.

“He is a good example of the municipality’s commitment towards advancing youth development.

“He has displayed a lot of hunger and determination to succeed and it has finally paid off,” Mpalantshane said.

“His story will inspire young people to chase their dreams.”
